This should commence around 4:00 pm. If it is too cold we will move into the boats…
Saturday: There will be a no-host dinner at the restaurant starting at 5:00 pm. Since we will need to make reservations for this dinner, the RSVP portion of the plan is most important!! The return is flexible with everyone traveling at their own pace and on their own schedule.

They have a heated indoor pool and a wonderful hot tub, plus a day spa. If you are wondering what to do for Valentine’s Day – this might be it!!

Slip Reservations are not necessary. The PHYC has been in contact with the marina, and there should be no problem with dock space for this event. The off season moorage rates are $.75 per foot per night according to the website.

PLEASE RSVP to Ginny and Eric at gineric@comcast.net by Tuesday, January 20, if you plan to attend. We better get dinner reservations in early for Valentines Day!

As always, this is a “weather permitting function”. If weather conditions, or the combination of weather and tides interfere with these plans, this will be discussed on Friday morning between the participants. The backup plan will be a dock party weekend at Pleasant Harbor!

2009 Chili Cook Off

Another premier annual event - the Chili-Cook-off - was again a popular venue for our yacht club chefs! No host social hour in the marina guesthouse at 4, potluck from 5 - 7 pm.

Special information for this event: Please bring a colorful planter of flowers, veggies, or herbs for your dockbox this summer and/or some cool flags and banners! This is a wonderful place, and let’s make it sparkle! This is not a contest, but simply a day to add color for the summer season. We suggest that your planter contain soil that has good water retention capability or a reservoir to sustain it. The potluck has been moved from the pool shelter up to the marina guesthouse. Since we will need to cleanup and secure the house for the night after we eat, the potluck will end at 7 pm sharp. The house kitchen is fully functional with burners, ovens, refrigerator and outlets that we can use.

Social event: Guests are always welcome at the social events. We encourage ‘green’ potlucks by bringing your own utensils and plates to minimize waste.

PLEASE RSVP to Greg Tyler by Monday, May 19th if you plan to attend. Approximately 488 pounds of food and toys and $185 in cash and checks were collected for the Brinnon Food Bank! Dick and Sheila Moore provided the Christmas tree which continues to have a few new ornaments added each year. The folks at the Marina helped set up the restaurant area and clean up the pool area in preparation for our event. The weather looked iffy and the highway was closed but suddenly the highway opened and at 3 pm the wind and rain ceased. We caught a lucky break!

It actually warmed enough that some of our members were seen wearing shorts at the outdoor nog and snack function at the pool! Now that is optimism!

For those who were still cold, Wolfman's experimental nog had enough 'extra' to keep us all warm. We had a great pre-function at the pool shelter with a nice hot propane heater and a sincere toast to all the men and women in uniform, past present, and future. We then adjourned and reconvened in the marina store for a pleasant potluck meal comprised of a wide range of delicious contributions from the group! We had some mouthwatering desserts and gave again our support to the Americans who are serving their country. Following dinner and dessert some of us returned to the pool shelter for several hours of warmth and partying while others remained inside while doing the same!

There were some new marina moorage customers and new PHYC members as well - WELCOME TO THIS COOL GROUP!If you were not able to attend this event, it was GREAT!

We also had much conversation about events in the months yet to come:

The Annual Boat Decorating, Holiday Nog, Snack, Meal Potluck on December 15th: This is also the annual toy and food drive for The Brinnon Food Bank! I learned that they provide support for over 90 area families. Like I said Saturday night, I anticipated being surprised at the level of need - and I was! They are also an official IRS recognized 501-3C Not for Profit group with all the necessary papers. Please add this event to your calendar and plan to attend! I am looking forward to seeing a wide range of Nog and holiday recipies to be sampled... Dick and Sheila have volunteered to provide the Christmas tree and I will get with them as this event gets closer to help put it up. THANK YOU DICK and SHEILA!

The annual Chili Cook Off in January: Dick is our coordinator for that and the plan will be sent out to everyone as soon as it is finished! THANK YOU DICK!In February we have the annual SnowFlake Cruise! Dale and Jan have volunteered to coordinate that event, and I also had several others approach me with the same offer! So, we may have a group effort guiding us on that event which is very cool! THANK YOU DALE AND JAN AND ALL THE OTHER VOLUNTEERS!

The annual Spring Fling Potluck in March: We were thinking about coordinating that, but think there might be a member or 2 who would like to do it instead of us. Let me know and I will help you get started - it is easy!! So, check your calendars and make some plans! Besides, we all need to check on our boats every few weeks and this is a good way to do that and check on all our boating friends at the same time!
